How We Research & Review Our Guides
Cottage food guidance is only useful if it is accurate and current. Here is the process behind every state guide on MyPorch — and the honest limits of what we do.
We start from the primary source
Facts come from the statute and official state guidance first — the codified law and the health-department documents that actually govern cottage food in each state. Secondary aggregators are used only as research leads, never as the source of a claim. When two sources disagree, the primary statute governs.
Every claim is cited
Each guide lists the official sources it draws from, so you can verify any answer against the law itself. We would rather show our work than ask you to take our word for it.
We date every review and re-check on a schedule
Every guide records when it was last reviewed and when it is next due. Automated checks re-verify each guide’s cited quotes and watch its official sources for changes on a recurring schedule, so drift in the law is caught and corrected rather than left to rot.
